EMHS WEEKLY RUNDOWN MAY 11 - MAY 15

Good morning Griffin families,

First of all, Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, grandmas and caregivers in our school community – we hope that today is a special one for you!  We are now in the final countdown of the 2025/26 school year, meaning the final 4 weeks of classes. While we think of the school year as winding down, we are actually at the height of activity with many spring sports, competitions, clubs and exams in full swing, as well as both staff and students planning for next year. This week we recognize the dedication of our grade 12 students and their families with our graduation ceremony tomorrow. Given that all staff will be present to celebrate our graduands, there will be no school for grades 10 and 11.

As a complement to all of the detailed information available on the Ernest Manning High School website, here is this week’s rundown.

EMTV – EM DAILY Weekly

EM DAILY was broadcasting on the road at the 2026 Skills Canada Provincial Competition. Thank you to Knifewear for supporting our EM Skills team. And congratulations to our Skills Competitors for their outstanding accomplishments across a variety of fields. A number of students have advanced to Team Alberta and will be representing our province at Nationals in Toronto. A full list of results can be found here.

Please enjoy this week’s highlight reel from the daily EMTV student broadcasts here.

CULINARY ARTS MENU

In addition to all the freshly-made sandwiches, salads and sweet treats, the chefs and students have the following hot menu planned for this week:

Tuesday: Beef lasagna, Caesar salad, garlic bread

Wednesday: BBQ chicken leg, mac and cheese, broccoli

Thursday: Beef burger and fries

BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS

The Griffin Breakfast of Champions is a revitalized tradition at Ernest Manning High School, built from a previous school initiative to celebrate students who make a positive impact on our community. Rooted in our motto — Lead • Learn • Innovate — this event recognizes the many ways students contribute to making our school an exceptional place to belong.

Each staff member has selected a student based on his / her unique strengths, growth, character, and contributions. There are no set criteria; recognition is grounded in meaningful relationships and the diverse ways students demonstrate leadership, learning, creativity, perseverance, and kindness.

Held each May, invited students attend a special breakfast in their honour, celebrating everyday excellence and the many forms success can take within our school community. We look forward to celebrating our champions this Wednesday, May 13 at 7:45 am.

BIKE / SCOOTER LOCK UP

Unfortunately Ernest Manning is not immune from bike and scooter thefts. In fact, Mr. Freeman was saying just the other day (like he does) “The math is in: 100% of stolen bikes had cables. Don't be a statistic—get a U-Lock.”

Though we are able to capture video surveillance of thefts to aid in recovery, the best way to deter thieves is to secure your bike with a U-lock or other theft-deterrant lock. For more information consult this article from Bike Calgary. Love your bike? Lock it right!
