It was a pleasure to meet so many parents last Thursday evening during our orientation evening. We hope that those of you who were able to attend enjoyed meeting your child’s teachers and learning more about the many clubs and activities happening at Ernest Manning. SCHOOL COUNCIL CONNECTIONS 

Volunteers needed!!! EMHS Casino Fundraiser - Oct 24 & 25, 2025 @ Cowboys Casino, 421 12 Ave SE, Calgary 

The EMHS Casino is the largest fundraiser for our school community, benefiting all students through funding of various school-based initiatives, including academics, sports, arts, and student support. The EMHS Parent Advisory Committee organizes this fundraiser. Please come out and show your support for our amazing school community by signing up for one of the available volunteer spots. School Council/ Parent Advisory Committee AGM October 15

EMHS YEARBOOK ORDERING

 Changes to Key Book Ordering 

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the EMPower Store will soon no longer be able to sell Key Books.  Please read this document to learn about important changes made by Castle Rock, the publisher of Key Books. Deadline to order using the attached document is October 3.  

Calgary Transit School Route Communication  

For Families: 

  • Families should connect with Calgary Transit via 311 or 403-262-1000 for any operational concerns related to Calgary Transit service. 
  • As an alternate option, families may also contact transportation@cbe.ab.ca. The team at Calgary Transit will provide a first reply to try and address the concern. 
  • If families are not satisfied with the response, they may submit a formal concern through the Concerns and Complaints process. 

YEARLY DEMOGRAPHIC VERIFICATION FORMS 

We received word last week that we have not received demographic verification forms for this school year for 370 of our students. It is essential to complete these forms annually, even if your contact and household information remain unchanged. If you haven’t already done so, please complete these forms through SchoolEngage.  

If you have any questions or need a paper copy of the forms,  please don’t hesitate to reach out to Ms. O'How, our admin secretary.  

OFF-CAMPUS CORNER 

EMHS students can find success through various off-campus programs, courses, and industry exposure. Here are just some of the opportunities open to our students: 

  • Exploratory Programs each semester and in Summer with Industry Professionals 
  • More CTS courses offered through the CT Centre 
  • Dual credit programs with post-secondary universities and colleges 
  • Apprenticeships  
  • Work Experience credits for existing employment 

Olds College Open House Field Tri

Speaking of opportunities… Did you know? Olds College of Agriculture & Technology has been ranked one of Canada’s Top 50 Research Colleges, currently holding the 14th spot.  Olds College is hosting an open-house event on Friday, October 3, and Saturday, October 4. Ernest Manning High School will be taking a group of Grade 11 &12 students to attend the Open House on Friday, October 3. Olds College offers a variety of programs in areas such as Agriculture, Agriculture Technology, Animal Health, Business, Equine, Horticulture, Land & Environment, Hospitality & Tourism, Trades & Apprenticeship and boasts a very high employment rate following graduation. PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS UPCOMING 

We look forward to welcoming our parents and families back to EMHS for our first round of Parent-Teacher interviews, scheduled for Thursday, October 16, from 5-8 pm (in-person) and on Monday, October 20, from 9 am to noon for online interviews. Conference Manager will open up on Tuesday, October 7, for interview booking.  

FLEX DAY OCTOBER 16 

We look forward to our first Flex Day of the school year on Thursday, October 16, from 9 am to 3 pm. This is an opportunity for students to design their own learning for the day, with the chance to check in with teachers to review concepts, complete missing work, and reassess outcomes. Teachers will provide students with their availability on Flex Day so they can best organize their day. In addition, we will have sessions taking place across the school, such as HCS 3000 course completion, navigating the AP Exam online platform, setting up a MyPass account, and a First Aid course, amongst others. No attendance is taken on Flex Day, but students are invited to use the day to focus on what they need to promote their own success. The Learning Commons will also be open all day for students to study with their buddies.

EMHS SPEED MENTORING DAY NEEDS YOU – COME MENTOR OUR YOUTH! 

We are looking forward to our EMHS Speed Mentoring Day on March 19, 2026,  a day during which students can explore career interests with mentors working in the field. No preparation is necessary on the part of mentors – just your wisdom and experience.
